Microneedling FAQs

by redentor | Potenza RF Microneedling, SkinPen MicroNeedling

Microneedling is a gentle rejuvenating skin treatment that uses a medical device consisting of very fine needles to stimulate the body to produce its own collagen. This is a great treatment option for those patients who are looking to improve the tone and texture of their skin with little down time. Outlined here are the commonly asked questions about microneedling that we hear around the clinic.

What types of conditions does Microneedling treat?

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Acne Scarring
  • Trauma or Surgical Scars
  • Inconsistent skin color, tone and texture, enlarged pores
  • Stretch marks

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling channels the reparative power of this natural healing response by using 12 tiny needles to create precisely targeted micro-injuries. These small injuries then trigger the body’s wound-healing response and the synthesis of new collagen. To accelerate and support this healing and repair process and to stimulate thorough skin rejuvenation, we apply a variety of different serums to the treatment area to promote skin regeneration such as hyaluronic acid or natural growth factors. These serums are shuttled through the channels created during the microneedling process penetrating deeper into the skin than just topically applied.

What types of serums do you use on the skin with Microneedling?

At Pūr Skin clinic we offer 3 types of serums to be use on the skin during microneedling treatments:

  • Hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally occurring in the body, is used to plump the skin, give hydration, as well as stimulating collagen regeneration.
  • Growth Factors (GF) harness the power of nature’s stem cell. Growth factors are naturally occurring proteins that stimulate stem cells to become new collagen making your skin look and feel smoother and younger.
  • Part of the patients blood is taken as its the most beneficial serum since it stimulates your own collagen to grow for total facial rejuvenation rather than individual wrinkle improvement. This serum is obtained from your own blood and is used as an immune stimulator for new collagen growth.

Can I have Microneedling done in the summer?

The summer months are a great time to try microneedling since sun exposure is less of a factor as compared to traditional laser treatments. Many of our patients who have had great success in their skin rejuvenation journey complete their laser treatments in the fall and winter and switch to micorneedling during the sunny summer months.

Microneedling vs Derma Roller?

We commonly get this question from our patients. There are currently many different kinds of derma rollers on the market, but the professionals at our clinic utilize a trusted brand of microneedling devices that are made particularly for medical offices. This medical microneedling device offers laser targeted precision results and ensures the safety of the patient. The microneedling device smoothly glides over the skin surface without tugging or tearing at the skin as opposed to the rolling action of many dermal rollers.
