Why is it so hard to slim down?
Weight loss is complicated! Excessive weight is often caused by a combination of genetic factors, upbringing, food environmental and stress. Sluggish metabolism and health problems also play a role.
Also, once you have excess weight, your body changes at a cellular level. Your excess adipose (fat) tissue starts an inflammatory cascade in the body that is related to systemic diseases such as metabolic syndrome, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes.
As you start dieting, your body works against you. When you decreased your intake of calories, your body worries you’re in danger of starving and it increases your levels of Ghrelin (the hunger hormone), and decreases leptin hormone production (which signals fullness). Unstable blood sugar, that occurs when meals are skipped, and stress increase cortisol production- which leads to increased weight gain. To reverse this unhealthy process, the root cause / hormone imbalance must be evaluated and treated.
How is medical weight loss different?
Research from Columbia University reports that 73% of dieters experience at least one weight cycling “Yo Yo” episode. The Mayo Clinic reports more “Yo-Yo” cycles increases diabetes risk and amounts of belly fat. This is because when we lose weight, we lose both fat and muscle- but when we regain weight the percentage of fat added is higher than fat previously lost. Medically supervised weight loss works- helping patients slim down safely and teaching the skills to maintain their healthy weight to avoid these “Yo Yo” cycles.
An experienced medical weight loss professional will evaluate your current health condition, body type, genetic predisposition, weight loss goals, and other important factors when designing a custom weight loss program for you. This goes far beyond dieting and exercise regimen, as all health-related aspects are prioritized to ensure safe, successful, long term weight reduction.
What is medication management?
Medication management includes review and adjustment of current weight positive and weight negative medications. It may include substitution or elimination of weight positive medications and may involve the use of weight control medications.
Prescription weight loss medications may be considered for adult patients with a BMI of 30 or greater, or if your BMI is 27-29 and you have a weight-related comorbid condition such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, or dyslipidemia. Medications are used to reduce severe hunger, cravings, and binge eating.
Medications that may be prescribed if medically necessary: Phentermine, Qsymia®, Contrave®, Saxenda®, and Belviq®. When taken as part of a comprehensive medical program these medications help patients stick to their program, eliminate sugar addiction, and successfully lose weight.
Natural, non-prescription, weight loss supplements are an alternative option.
Why would I consider a weight loss medication?

Is there help for stubborn fat pockets? Or Flabby muscles resistant to exercise?
If you have reached your goal weight, but have a trouble area unaffected by diet and exercise CoolSculpting® or CoolTone® may be the answer.
The CoolSculpting® procedure is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the submental (under the chin) and submandibular (under the jawline) areas, thigh, abdomen, and flank, along with bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks (also knowns as banana roll) and upper arm. Cryolipolysis technology literally freezes and kills fat cells safely, and then your body will naturally eliminate the dead cells in 1-3 months or more. Typically resulting in up to 20%-25% reduction of fat in a treated area.
The CoolTone® applicator generates a magnetic field that creates a current when it passes through a conductive material. Muscles are good conductors of magnetic fields, unlike skin and fat, which are poor conductors. The induced current is stronger in the muscle layer and the body responds to these contractions by strengthening its muscle fibers and improving muscle conditioning. The result is stronger, firmer, and more toned abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.
Can you treat loose or crepey skin after weight loss?
Thermage® has been successfully used to tighten skin in the on the face, neck, abdominal region, thighs, buttocks, and upper arms. It can also be used to improve the texture of rough skin and repair areas with mild body acne scars. Body Thermage® treatments are effective for people of all skin types and skin tones who want to have tighter, more youthful skin. Thermage® body therapies are ideal for people who have excess lax skin after losing significant amounts of weight or for women after pregnancy.
