Sunless Tanning Options

Getting that sun kissed look does not mean you need to subject your skin to the dangers of the sun. Sunless tanning products can give your skin a tanned look without exposing you to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Most sunless tanning products contain Dihydroxyacetone which reacts with dead cells on the skin’s surface to temporarily darken the skin and give the illusion of a tan. The tan is temporary, typically wearing off after a few days.

  1. Self-Tanning Lotion
Self-tanners are a sunless option for a pretty glow. Self-tanning lotion tans just the top layers of the skin and gradually fades as the skin naturally exfoliates over time. For the best results, it’s important to first prepare your skin before applying your tanning product. Make sure to properly exfoliate your skin to ensure an even application. Simply apply and watch skin instantly bronze that will last for 7 to 10 days.
  2. Sunless Tan Towelettes
You can now also buy sunless tanning wipes; a personal favorite of mine! Be sure to have a wet cloth ready so that you can wipe your hands as soon as you are done applying your tan towelette. Orange palms are never in style!
  3. Bronzing Powder
The easiest and quickest way to create a summer shimmer on your face, neck, and chest is simply with bronzer. After you’ve perfectly blended your foundation, simply apply the bronzer of your choice for an effortless glow. Natural results occur by applying bronzer with a large brush to areas predominantly where the sun hits the skin: cheekbones, nose, forehead, and chin.
  4. Spray Tan
Tanning beds are obviously not a safe alternative to sun exposure. Instead, head to the pros for a spray tan. Make sure to avoid sweating, swimming, getting wet or exercising until your first shower after your spray tan to prevent streaking. To make your tan last longer, be sure to exfoliate before and moisturize every day following.
  5. Sunless tanning pills?
Sunless tanning pills, which typically contain the color additive canthaxanthin, aren’t proven to be safe. When taken in large amounts, canthaxanthin can turn your skin orange or brown and cause liver and vision impairment.

REMEMBER: Most sunless tanning products don’t contain sunscreen, so be sure to apply sunscreen every day!
