To understand how the PUR Skin Hair Restoration Program works, we first have to understand how hair grows on the body.
There are three stages in which hair grows on the body: Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. The average scalp has about 100,000 follicles and each of these follicles are usually in a different stage of this cycle:
is the active growing stage that lasts anywhere from two to eight years. On average, the scalp will have 90 to 95 percent of the hair follicles in this stage.
is the transition stage where hair stops growing and can last anywhere from four to six weeks.
is the resting stage of the hair growth cycle where hair falls out. Hair can last in this stage anywhere from two to three months. On average, the scalp will have about five to ten percent of the hair follicles in this stage, which means anywhere from 100 to 150 hairs can fall out every day.
The PUR Skin Hair Restoration Program includes PRP (platelet-rich plasma) Hair Restoration Therapy, which is a safe and effective way of slowing and reversing hair loss and helps stimulate new hair growth for both men and women. Studies have shown that PRP treatments can be a great option to help increase hair count, hair thickness and promote the growth phase of the hair cycle. PRP uses the platelet-rich plasma found in the blood to help promote natural hair growth in the scalp. Our blood is made up of two main components: red blood cells and plasma. Plasma is made up of white blood cells and platelets, which also contain growth factors. Growth factors act as messengers by telling the skin cells how to function. When it comes to thinning hair and hair loss, growth factors work to “wake up” the hair follicles and as a result, help new hair grow and help maintain the new hair growth. PRP treatments have been used for years in traditional medicine to heal wounds, injuries and treat orthopedic complaints. In the cosmetic space, PRP is used effectively in the face for collagen stimulation, the hair for scalp healing and hair regrowth, and is an additional component for more invasive procedures to facilitate quicker healing.
A patient is scheduled for a consultation, prior to treatment, to meet with one of our medical providers who will determine if the patient is a good candidate for the Hair Restoration Program. During the initial consultation, the provider will discuss potential causes of hair loss and work with the patient to develop a personalized treatment plan that’s specifically focused on their goals and desired outcome.
After the initial consultation, a patient is scheduled for their first PRP injection. During this treatment, a patient’s blood is drawn from the arm and then put into a centrifuge, a machine that spins the blood tube to separate out the red blood cells from the plasma.
After the blood tubes have been in the centrifuge for 10 minutes, the blood will have separated into three layers: platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma and red blood cells. Once separated, the platelet-rich plasma is then injected directly into the scalp at the level of the hair follicle, in areas where hair thinning occurs or hair growth is desired. The injections are made across the scalp, approximately at every half inch over the area of thinning hair or hair loss. Treatment time for a PRP treatment can take less than 30 minutes.
After the first PRP treatment, the provider will prescribe Nutrafol (a non-drug oral supplement) and Hair Restoration Max Rx (a custom-formulated, topical preparation that’s designed specifically for the patient’s needs.) Going forward, our Edmonds hair restoration patients will be scheduled for future PRP treatments, one month apart while completing their oral supplements and topical preparation at home, in-between treatments.

This comprehensive hair treatment program includes an advanced, non-surgical treatment, non-drug oral supplements and a custom-formulated topical preparation, that when all completed together, work to promote natural hair growth and restore a fuller, younger-looking head of hair without invasive surgery or the discomfort of other hair restoration methods.
For optimal results, we recommended six PRP treatments, one month apart. Anticipated results can be seen within two to three months of receiving the first treatment. The first sign of results from this treatment include a decrease in hair shedding, followed by regrowth and increased hair length. The great part about the PUR Skin Hair Restoration Program is almost anyone is a candidate. This includes anyone experiencing thinning hair or hair loss. Early prevention is key when it comes to treating hair loss. In general, patients with early hair loss tend to have the best results.
Besides the blood draw and injections, there’s very limited risk with the Hair Restoration Program. PRP injections are considered safe and “autologous”, meaning that the cells and tissues come from the patient’s own body. This naturally occurring procedure utilizes the body’s own components, making it safe. There’s no risk of added ingredients, or foreign material.
Most Edmonds hair restoration patients who receive PRP Treatments experience minimal downtime, if any, and very few side effects.
Patients can resume normal activity after treatments. Numbing cream, cool air and ice packs are available for any patients who experience discomfort during their treatment. After treatment, if a patient still experiences discomfort, we recommend taking a Tylenol. Bruising may occur for some hair restoration patients, but this often goes away within a week or two. Some patients with bleeding or clotting disorders, or patients who take blood thinning medications will want to discuss bleeding or bruising risks with their provider during the consultation, prior to treatment. For all of our patients, we recommend taking a warm shower after hair restoration treatment because the warm temperature helps enhance blood flow and circulation throughout the scalp. We also recommend going a day or two with any typical hair maintenance. This includes coloring, processing, blow drying, etc. Nutrafol is considered a 100% drug-free oral supplement. This supplement does not come with side effects that other pharmaceutical-based treatments do.
The Hair Restoration Rx is a custom-formulated topical preparation that is prescribed to you by your provider after your first PRP treatment. This prescribed formulation is specific to both women and men. For the Hair Restoration Max Rx for Women, the active ingredients in this formulation include: Minoxidil, Progesterone and Tretinoin (a topical retinoid.) For the Hair Restoration Max Rx for Men, the active ingredients in this formulation include: Finasteride (used topically to treat male pattern hair loss in men only), Minoxidil and Tretinoin (a topical retinoid.) A common side effect for either one of the Hair Restoration Max Rx formulations can be a slight scalp dryness/irritation that resolves over time. This side effect is common whenever introducing any type of retinol to the skin. The irritation is generally minimal and varies by the dose of the topical treatment.
This treatment program can range in cost due to the size of the area being treated and the variability in treatments, supplements and topical preparation a patient may need during the program.
