How Your Hair Grows

Hair grows from deep within hair follicles, which are embedded in the skin. Hair does not grow continuously but in a three-phase cycle.

Anagen Phase: This phase is where the hair actively grows, which typically lasts for several months and is the best phase for laser hair removal.
Catagen Phase: During this brief phase, the hair bulb regresses and begins to shrink.

How Long Does The Hair Removal Last?

Many patients report that, after four to six treatments, their expectations have been met and the hair growth pattern is significantly reduced.

You may need more treatments if you have a history of irregular menses, polycystic ovary disease, or a family history of excessive hair. In some areas, in addition to the decrease in the number of hairs, the hairs become very fine and light in color, which is also acceptable to many patients. Why do you recommend a series of treatments?

At any given time, a certain percentage of hairs are in the “resting” phase or telogen phase. The laser will not be effective on those hairs, which is why, on average, five to six treatments are necessary to achieve maximum results. Due to the variation in the number of hairs in the resting phase, certain areas of the body will respond more rapidly, whereas others might take much longer to show hair reduction effects.

Do the treatments hurt, and how long will they take?

There may be mild discomfort during the treatment, but most patients tolerate laser hair reduction very easily. Treatments can take from minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the treatment area. For discomfort, we may use ice packs before and after your treatment and/or we will use a cooling machine during the treatment to make the experience more comfortable.
