Melasma Treatments

Melasma is a skin condition associated with brown patches appear on the skin. These patches usually appear on the cheeks, nose, forehead, chin, and upper lip. There are multiple factors which are thought to trigger melasma including some cosmetics, birth control pills, hormone therapy, sun exposure and is also very common during pregnancy and after childbirth. Treatment always begins with good sun protection. Other treatments include bleaching creams, topical vitamin A derivatives and chemical peels. In some cases, lasers can be helpful in minimizing melasma and hyperpigmentation.
